ORM expects successful elections and rapid establishment of stable institutions that will effectively cope with the economic consequences of the Kovid-19 crisis

Skopje, June 22, 2020 – The Organization of Employers of Macedonia (ORM) calls on political parties participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections to offer concrete solutions in their election programs to overcome the economic and social consequences of the Kovid-19 pandemic. ORM expects the elections to be successful and to enable the rapid establishment of stable institutions that, through effective social dialogue with employers and unions, will create adequate economic measures and policies to overcome the current crisis.

The results of a recent survey conducted by ORM showed that the Covid-19 crisis has a major impact on over 80% of domestic companies, and as many as 40,000 jobs are at immediate risk. Over 70% of surveyed companies believe that in order to maintain their economic activity needs to continue state aid help it expand with tax breaks and additional credit support.

“The survey clearly shows that the business is counting on further support from the state in overcoming the consequences of the current crisis, which makes it clear that it will be long-lasting and will affect many sectors.” To provide an appropriate response to current and future challenges, strong institutions are needed, and a precondition for this is the rapid formation of a stable government and a functioning Assembly that will work on an economic program that will contain effective solutions to the current crisis. return to the path of economic growth. In order to create and implement such an economic program, it is necessary for the political parties to put the economy as one of the top priorities in the election campaign and to offer clear and concrete proposals, “said the President of the ORM, Angel Dimitrov.

At the same time, ORM appeals to its members and the entire business sector in the country to take decisive steps that will effectively adapt their business activities and processes to the economic trends caused by the new reality.

“It is clear that as businessmen and entrepreneurs, we are facing unprecedented challenges in the recent history of mankind. Exactly such challenges should be an additional motive and incentive for awakening the entrepreneurial spirit and inventiveness, especially among young people, but also among more experienced businessmen. Business cannot and should not rely solely on state support. Now is the time to act more courageously, even at the cost of increased business risk, to bring about change in operations, to realize new investments and business ventures that will increase productivity, efficiency and open new perspectives for the development of business in the new reality, “Dimitrov said.

The Organization of Employers of Macedonia is the only representative member of the employers in the National Economic and Social Council, where since the beginning of the current crisis it has submitted proposals for easier overcoming of the consequences on the domestic economy. ORM activities are supported by the project “Strengthening Social Dialogue”. which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO).
